Obituary

Gerald Benjamin Rivlin of Skokie Illinois died in Florida peacefully at the age of 85 surrounded in love on March 23, 2014. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Rabbi Solomon and Rose Rivlin and his beloved son, Daniel . He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Helene nee Mabel, his children Deborah (Thom), Sandy (Rick), Jeff (Lee), and Annette (Bruce) , his grandchildren Jenna (Mike), Aly, Sophie, Will, Matthew, Anabelle, and Jory. He is also survived by his sisters Miriam Eisenberg, Eleanor Belfort, Orah Kaplan, and his devoted caretaker Jocelyn White. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946 and graduated the University of Illinois in 1950 with a degree in accounting. Upon returning from his service in the US Army during the Korean War, Jerry’s strong drive for excellence and desire to provide for his growing family took him from work as an accountant to becoming a prominent Chicago Stock Broker. For 33 years he was a partner at Rodman & Renshaw and in 1993 joined Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. as Executive Director- Investment until his retirement in 2011. Jerry was instrumental in the founding and support of Beth Hillel Congregation in Wilmette and served as past president. His dedication to the synagogue and Israel was a life long endeavor along with his passion to travel the world. Jerry’s charismatic spirit and generosity has touched friends and family across the globe, and he will be dearly missed. Service will be held Wednesday, 1:00 PM at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah, 3220 Big Tree Lane, Wilmette. Interment Westlawn Cemetery.
