I just learned that sweet, sweet, Sally made her transition. I am shocked and sadden. Sally worked in the CPS Citywide Counseling position until she retired. Organized, intelligent, kind, thoughtful, intuitive, and family oriented are the memories etched in my heart when I think of Sally. We had lunch many times upon her return to Chicago from Florida so she could remind me that it would not be long before I would be joining the ranks of retiree. We shared a few lunches thereafter with retired and active colleagues. She loved her family and doted on her grandchildren. I will always remember her beautiful smile, wisdom, and most importantly, I will cherish the times spent with Sally.

Dear Stan and family,
I’m so very sorry to hear that Sally is gone. But she’s not forgotten. As a docent for the Chicago Architecture Center (Foundation), I remember Sally and her kindness and infectious laugh. She was also a darn good docent.
Peace to you all,
Mary Jo

Dear Stan, Matthew, Beth and Family,
I am very sorry to hear about your loss and we are thinking of you at this difficult time.
I have very fond memories of your visits to Toronto and our visits to Chicago over the years, including trips to the botanic gardens and conversations about the architectural tours you both lead.
I hope that the good memories of Sally can provide you some consolation. We are thinking of you and sending our love.

I met Sally relatively late in our lives— post retirement. I knew of her because I taught at Monroe after she left and Donna Zagorski. Sally joined my book club. We Connected immediately, but given Sally’s warmth I am sure that was not a unique experience for her. She shared old baby spoons and rocking chairs with me. But most importantly she shared her kindness and admirable strengths.

Stan, Beth, Matt and families. I am so sorry that Sally is no longer with us. Even though we were not blood relatives, our family bond was so dear to me. The friendship shared between you, Stan and Sally, and my parents, Barb and Jon, was strong and long-lived. Our families grew up together sharing holidays, celebrations and fun times. I cherish the memory of our laughter and love shared. Sally gave her spirit generously to so many people. She will live on in the memory and spirits of others. My love to you all at this very sad time.

It’s impossible to think of Aunt Sally and not smile! So many memories growing up of her around the holiday table. She was always outgoing, happy, talkative, and smiling. She was very supportive and reached out to me in one of the most difficult times in my life. I am very happy to have a wonderful memory of her more recently when she took myself and my sister to the Chicago Botanical Gardens for a beautiful afternoon. Aunt Sally, you will always be remembered. Wendi

Words cannot express the sorrow we all feel now with the loss of our beloved Sally. Sally was so gifted in so many ways and we all loved her big eyes and smile. May the fond memories of the past sustain us during this difficult time. I will miss my morning call to Sally . Her Toronto family is mourning with you – we are there virtually due to COVID. Love Evie and all the gang in Toronto

Deepest sympathies from my family to yours. Sally was nice enough to give us a ping pong table right before moving from Arlington Heights. It was great to reminisce with her and Stan about younger years… playing kick the can with Matthew, and not one word about being the trouble-maker I sometimes was.

To the Nochowitz Family,
I am so very sorry to learn that dear Sally has passed away. She was such a bright, funny, and kind person. She volunteered to support so many of the Chicago Botanic Garden special events, and she was wonderful with our staff, volunteers and visitors. We laughed together and I enjoyed working with her. I will miss her. Thank you for sharing her with us.
With deep sympathy,

My sincere condolences to Stan and the entire Nochowitz family. Sally was an amazing lady, a good friend and one of my Donna’s closest friends. We would touch base regularly after I lost her. It meant so much. I will miss her dearly. We were all blessed, having the honor of knowing her for as long as we did.

I only have one aunt. Aunt Sally. Our family is small. My father is the only survivor of his family after the Holocaust. My mother’s immediate family survived but that was only the parents, my mom and Sally who was born after the war. It wasn’t the easiest time for a young child to be raised in a Displaced Persons camp and then to come to a new country.
It was always very special for me to come to Chicago to visit the family.
I have fond memories of walking with my grandfather on Devon, and driving to Arlington Heights to see Sally and Stan.
Sally and Stan were a great team. Both highly intelligent and interesting people.
Sally used to love taking us to the botanical gardens.
I will miss her.

Dear Stan, Just when a wonderful new friendship was blossoming, it was cut short. It was our pleasure to know Sally, even if it was for such a short time. She was fun, loving, caring, and so funny. We will so miss our times with her, especially around Ancient Tree. May her memory be for a blessing!
