The entire Alonzi family is heart broken at losing such an important friend, second Mom to my children, and wonderful neighbor. The Lakin Family was always so welcoming to my family when we lived next door. They had an open-door policy and were so generous when it came to sharing their dogs Maggie and Lulu with my children. We could not have had better neighbors. I also knew Sandy as a mentor when she encouraged me to enter the teaching profession. I had the great pleasure of working with her when she subbed for one of our administrators at my school on family leave for three months. She would come in on her day off to observe children that teachers expressed concerns about. She was an outstanding educator and will be missed. We used to see Alan & Sandy at Ridgeview before the pandemic. They were always asking how our children were doing, and we took great joy in talking about our grandchildren. The entire Alonzi family is heartbroken about the grandchildren losing their beloved Nanny. We will never forget Sandy. Please accept our sincerest condolences Alan, Allie, Noah, Max, and Annie.
Love,
Mary, Peter, Pete, and Nick Alonzi

I knew Sandy through a mutual friend Betsy Lupetin. Sandy was such a warm, caring person and gave me her time when I needed to reach out to her for advice. She was so kind and considerate and a very giving person. My condolences and deepest sympathies go out to all of Sandy’s family and dearest friends. May you find the true fighting spirit that made Sandy such an exceptional person and may her wisdom and loving spirit guide you in the trying days ahead. May she live in your hearts forever.

As a young teacher, I learned so much from Sandy. I always looked up to her as her skills and dedication to children with the most severe of behaviors were second to none. Laughter was always part of our work, and Sandy always found a way to infuse levity into even the most stressful of situations. I felt very privileged to serve as her family’s house and dog sitter on a handful of occasions, and the Lakins always set me up with plenty of gourmet food and wine for my service. Sandy’s love for Allie inspired me to have my own daughter years later. My heart goes out to Allie, Alan, and everyone in the family. Sandy was a smart, sarcastic, fun, and energetic person. Although I had not seen her for years, she reached out to me during my cancer journey 7 years ago as a fellow cancer thriver, and her comforting words and encouragement helped calm my fears. Farewell and Godspeed, Sandy. I hope you get to meet my husband, just 3 weeks in front of you on this transition. The two of you would most definitely share some laughs.
