We are greatly saddened by Aunt Chickie’s passing and extend our condolences to Rick, Barb, and all the family. What a gift for all of us to be blessed with her presence for almost a century! Growing up Bruce and I lived far away on the West Coast and saw her, Uncle Meyer and our cousins only infrequently. However, when we did get together we made the most of our time. Aunt Chickie was always smiling and so welcoming to us, making us feel like we’d never been apart. We knew with certainty how much she loved and cherished us and how much we loved her. The same was true for Rachelle, Batya, and Ari, whom she considered close. As the last of the Gekler siblings, she leaves a family legacy that will last forever. What a family!

We are so very sorry to hear of of your loss. Sandi: Chickie was the definition of a lovely lady. My first memory of Chickie was shortly after David and I got engaged. Meeting your future mother-in-law’s friends can be nervewracking. But, not with Chickie. Chickie was so warm, welcoming, and kind, with a smile that could light up an entire room. I remember thinking to myself that Chickie was just wonderful. My first impression of Chickie was one that has lasted throughout the years. I’m sure that her memory will be a blessing for all those whose lives she touched. Dave: I remember Chickie as a warm, sweet person who always made me feel welcome in her home. Best, and most important of all, she was a wonderful friend to my Mom. Sending love to all of you.

I’m truly sorry for your loss. Chickie was such a special part of our family for the better part of the last 95+ years. Her passing has brought back all of these memories of my grandmother, Evelyn. She and Chickie were best friends since they were 4 years old. They taught me the importance of strong friendship, which may be one of the reasons why my best friends today are from elementary school. Please know that I’m thinking of you.

Our deepest condolences to your family. My father, Michael Koppe (of blessed memory), always spoke very highly and warmly of Cousin Chickie who helped welcome him to the US after the war. She was the last of a special generation. May her memory be for a blessing and bring you comfort.
With sympathy and love,
Sandy Koppe

Our Dear Beloved Aunt Chickie Kavitt devoted her life to creating love and happiness for her family and friends. She was the “Baby Sister” of our beloved mother (Ann Ellinoy). Aunt Chickie was enthusiastic, compassionate, kind, gracious, giving, charismatic, and courageous. Her voice was soft and emanated a unique high pitched engaging tone. She was born into a world of poverty and antisemitism and yet she maintained her love of Judaism and G-d throughout her life. She and her devoted beloved husband (Uncle Meyer) provided a loving Kosher home for their children (Richard & Barbara), grandchildren (Robert, Danny, & Becky) and great grandchildren. Her love and Uncle Meyer’s love were unique and everlasting. Fond memories for all who were touched by Uncle Meyer & Aunt Chickie. Both were more than SPECIAL. Aunt Chickie will always be OUR SPECIAL AUNT CHICKIE.

Though time spent with Aunt Chickie was sparse and only as a child, or occasional greetings on the phone, her spirit of joy and positiveness created a special place in my memory. And a gift. Truly, the world was made better by the qualities she brought to it. Rick and Barb, I wish you deep peace, and may your mom’s love carry you gently, and her Light always shine brightly in your hearts.
