Obituary

Morton “Mort” Wallace, age 84 of Mundelein, Illinois Life partner of Rose Marie Clark for almost 40 years. Born in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago, September 11, 1936, Mort attended Roosevelt High School, and Roosevelt College ’58 where he was a member of the wrestling team. He married in his junior year and went on to earn his business accounting degree. While working as an accountant in the lighting industry and serving in the Army Reserves, he learned the lamp manufacturing business inside and out and launched Armitage Lamp, his own lamp manufacturing business. Mort left the lamp business in the 80’s and used his natural sales skills, gift a gab and great ability to tell a story or a joke as his passport to becoming a top payroll salesman at PAYCHEX where in a short time he became District Sales Manager. He continued to remain in contact with friends he made there until the end. Mort and Rose Marie retired in 1996 spending more time with family, friends and distant cousins. In 2008 they moved to Grand Dominion in Mundelein. Mort quickly became involved with the community and the people and made many friends. Over time he was named Resident of the Year, Chairman of the Property and Grounds Commission and President of the Board of Directors. Mort was extremely generous, honest in works and deeds and approached life with gusto. He was a lifelong avid Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan. He loved being involved with everything. He enjoyed card games with the guys and family poker nights, figuring out tricky tasks of any kind, and get togethers with family, friends and neighbors. He looked forward to time with extended family and reliving old family stories. He loved to read, listen to music, working in the garden, working with his hands. He always made everything better. He loved a good meal, nice clothes, great cars and NEATNESS! Mort leaves three cherished sons, Jay (Linda Kincaid, Life Partner), Lee (Jill Ziegler, Fiancé),and Earl. Four loved grandchildren, Vanessa, Katherine, Melanie and Derrick and four great grandchildren. Mort will be missed by many, especially family members, but most of all by Rose Marie.
