About sixty years ago, my family and the Adattos met as young families, neighbors, and friends. Jack became my my father’s doctor, as well as my brother’s and grandfather’s – one of the finest physicians there ever was. And a wonderful man.
The service was beautiful – I viewed it a couple times – so great to see all the love of such a good family. Jack Adatto was so engaged with the world, had such varied interests; deep knowledge – and a great laugh. Glad to be among those lucky to have known him.

My parents James and Jennie Elias were very close friends of Sophie and Leon Adatto—Jack’s parents. Our families went on trips together to Michigan city and south haven. I remember when I was about 10 years old we went on a hike together and I stepped on a board with a nail sticking out of it. Jack, who was about 16 years of age picked me up and carried me back to our cabin. He had the instincts of a doctor then! So sad to hear of his passing. May his memory be a blessing to your family.

I worked for Jack for many years. He was a force to deal with but he was always fair and honest. There were many times I would bring to him ideas on how to save money or reduce expenses and he never wavered when it involved a reduction in employee benefits or well being. Don’t get me wrong, he enjoyed a good savings, but he was always always fair to his employees. Looked after them even when no one was looking, invested for them and was always concerned about their well being. He was a good man. He had a witty and funny sense of humor and he never passed up an opportunity to educate when he was asked questions…. whether it was the Gaza Strip, WWII, the plight of Native Americans or the joy of travel. He was a maddening boss at times but he was always honest and fair. The close confines of one of the few standing private practices, allowed me to be able to work closely with Jack, allowed me time to learn from his actions and gain respect for him because of his integrity. He most definitely belonged to that elite group of people who will be remembered and measured by their word. He always kept his. He was a wonderfully skilled physician, smart, caring, through and I was always proud to tell people that he was a friend that I happened to work for. He will be missed.

When I joined the staff at LGH in 1974 I quickly learned that Jack was among the most respected physicians on the staff. As I got to know him he became one of my idols in medicine, someone I hoped I could emulate. When my first partners retired, Jack asked me to join Maine-Ridge as one of his partners. I consider that to be one of the greatest honors I’ve ever had. After Jack retired I saw a number of his former patients. Most of them made a point of telling me that I had a magnificent act to follow. I tried my best to always think about how Jack would handle whatever problems I was given. I loved his spirit, his sense of humor, and his great devotion to his practice. His devotion to you and all of his family was very obvious at today’s ceremony.

I met the Adatto family when I was a little girl and our family’s became friends for life. Dr.Jack always had an HONEST & CARING answer for any problem you approached him with. What sticks in my head is his giant smile and beautiful laughter. I am forever thankful for the friend he and Tobey had AWAYS been to my mother. He left behind such a beautiful family, who could ask for a better legacy then that!
