Obituary

Lorraine Ethel Ganz was called away and died peacefully on Friday, September 9 at the age of 94 in Chicago, IL. Lorraine lived a beautiful life of Judaism. She loved her family beyond compare and will be deeply missed. Lorraine was born to Bernard and Sylvia Greenman on November 16, 1927. She grew up in Chicago with her loving parents and three siblings. Lorraine married her beloved husband, Victor Ganz in 1950 and raised a family in Lincolnwood, IL. Lorraine’s legacy is her work in education, and in particular, with the Rimland Foundation. She dedicated her life to improving the lives of individuals with autism. As a co-founder and president for several years, Lorraine was instrumental in the establishment of the state’s first community based residual facility for individuals with disabilities. This foundation was especially near and dear to her heart. Lorraine was also a wonderful cook, devoted member of the Jewish Temple, and cherished mother and grandmother. She was extremely proud to have been the model for the Bird Girl Statue made famous in the book, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Victor Ganz. She is also preceded by her parents Bernard and Sylvia Greenman, two sons, Dr. Michael Ganz and Philip Ganz as well as sister, Beverly Riebman and brother Paul Greenman. Lorraine is survived by her daughter Leslie (Larry) Susler, son Dr. Robert (Keri) Ganz, and brother Joel (Judy) Greenman. She is also survived by her darling grandchildren who she adored beyond measure Sarah Susler, Carly Ganz, Jennifer (Nathan) Abrahamson, Elena Ganz, Gabriel Ganz, Zander Ganz, and Harlow Ganz.
