Obituary

Sonia Kass, nee Gamburg, 91, beloved wife for 65 years of the late Harold Kass; loving mother of Leni Kass (fiancé Brian Ivey) and Allan Kass; proud Grandma Sonny of Jorie (Steve) Denton, Brandon (Alex) and Ryan Kass; cherished great-grandmother of Audrey and Charlotte Kass; devoted daughter of the late Reva and Leonard Gamburg; dear sister-in-law of the late Paul (Barbara) Kass; treasured aunt of Steve and Debbie Kass.

Sonia was an accomplished musician and began studying piano at the age of 3 at the American Conservatory. She performed with the CSO, American Symphony and Woman's Symphony. Sonia was an Organist and Choir director of B'nai Torah in Highland Park and Choir Director at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) and the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago (www.anticruelty.org). Chapel service Friday 2:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. (Masks are required to attend the chapel service.) Interment Private. For many years, we loved singing in the B'nai Torah choir, as well as in the High Holiday choir, under Sonia's direction. She exposed us to such a rich array of Jewish repertoire. Most memorably, each year after the High Holidays, every single choir member would receive a personal thank-you note in Sonia's exquisite handwriting!
